Edelman Unsure On Future With Patriots

Nov 28, 2014 7:34 AM

Julian Edelman is unsure if he will be re-signed by the New England Patriots.

Edelman became Tom Brady's most valuable receiver following the season-ending injury to Rob Gronkowski.

Edelman became the Patriots' replacement for Wes Welker that the team expected Danny Amendola to be.

Kaepernick Hopes New Contract Allows 49ers To Still Keep Everyone

Oct 31, 2014 3:43 PM

Colin Kaepernick is entering the final season of his original four-year deal and could sign an extension with the San Francisco 49ers this offseason.

“I think it’s a balance,” Kaepernick said Thursday morning. “You want to be paid fairly for what you feel like you’re doing in comparison to your peers. But at the same time, you have to realize that if we want to get Anquan Boldin back, if we want Donte Whitner to come back, we’re going to have to make moves to get them back and there has to be room for everyone.

“And that’s something that I’m going to let my agent and the organization try to figure out. But, hopefully, it’s a (situation) where we can assemble the best team that we need.”

Kaepernick's focus this offseason will be on improving his game and not on his contract.

“To me, I’m trying to focus on what I need to do to get ready for next season and improve myself so I can help improve this offense and ultimately help win the Super Bowl,” Kaepernick said.

Kaepernick will work on his all-around game and not just his ability as a pocket passer.

“I think pocket passing is something is something that’s overlooked as far as what I do,” Kaepernick said. “I think people see me running around and they see me throwing on the run. They see me running down field and that’s just what he does.

“When you step up in the pocket and make a normal throw, it gets overlooked because you’re not running around. To me, it’s something, yes, you want to get better at that. I want to get better at throwing on the run, going through progressions quicker, I want to get better at everything. But I don’t think that (pocket passing) specifically is being addressed.”

Larry Fitzgerald Willing To Restructure Deal

Oct 2, 2014 11:03 PM

Larry Fitzgerald will make $12.75 million in 2014 and even more of that annually over the final four seasons of his current deal with the Arizona Cardinals.

Fitzgerald will have a cap figure of $18 million.

Fitzgerald expressed some willingness to redo his deal to give the Cardinals some flexibility.

“Absolutely. If that’s what needs to be done, that’s what needs to be done,” Fitzgerald said in an interview with Mike Jurecki of FOX Sports 910.

Charles Tillman To Enter Free Agency

Aug 8, 2014 5:04 AM

Charles Tillman will test free agency after 11 seasons with the Chicago Bears.

Tillman may still return to the Bears, but it is unlikely he will earn as much as the $7.95 million he made in 2013.

Tillman could join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to be reunited with Lovie Smith.

Tillman will turn 33 next month, which is considerably old for a cornerback. Tillman could potentially move to safety.

Jimmy Graham Doesn't Want Franchise Tag

Oct 7, 2014 9:43 AM

Jimmy Graham will be a free agent and he would prefer to sign a long-term deal this offseason.

"I'm not keen on the franchise tag," Graham said after Pro Bowl practice Friday, according to NFL.com. "That would be really unfortunate, but that is really all I have to say about that one."

If the New Orleans Saints decide to use the tag on Graham, it will open up a battle on whether he's a tight end of wide receiver.

The franchise tag last season at wide receiver was $10.5 million, compared to $6 million at tight end.

"Isn't that what we drafted him as? Isn't that what he made the Pro Bowl as?" Mickey Loomis said Tuesday. "That's what we see him as, a tight end. ... That's what makes him valuable."

At Least One NFL Team Ready To Sign Mark Sanchez As Starter

Aug 3, 2014 11:29 AM

At least one NFL coach is ready to make Mark Sanchez the starting quarterback of his team if the New York Jets cut him.

"We'd take Sanchez," said the unnamed coach. "He'd be the starter as soon as he walked in the door for us."

Sanchez's release would save the Jets $8.3 million off his $13.1 million cap figure.

Michael Vick, Josh Freeman, Shaun Hill, Josh McCown and Chad Henne are other free agent quarterbacks available.

McFadden To Test Open Market, Raiders Would Like To Keep Jennings

Aug 13, 2014 12:31 AM

Darren McFadden will test free agency this offseason.

"Darren's going to be a free agent and there's been communication with his agent," McKenzie said, per ESPN.com. "He's going to see what his market is. And that's the thing, when you're talking about the games that he's missed, he has no idea -- and when I say 'He,' I'm talking about his agent -- he has no idea what his market value will be and I couldn't tell you what the other 31 teams think."

McFadden has spent his entire six-year career with the Oakland Raiders, where he has been largely productive when healthy. McFadden rushed for just 3.3 yards per carry in 2013, his second straight mediocre season.

The Oakland Raiders would like to keep Rashad Jennings.

Drew Brees Willing To Restructure Contract

Dec 7, 2014 2:28 PM

Drew Brees is willing to restructure his contract this offseason to keep the New Orleans Saints as playoff contenders.

Brees is set to count against the cap at $18.4 million in 2014, $26.4 million in 2015 and $27.4 million in 2016. The Saints will enter the offseason at least $12 million over the cap.

"You look around and look at the veteran leadership on this team, you look at the young talent, you look at the systems in which we play, this organization and the expectation level that we've set for ourselves, the track record, and you would say the future is as bright as we want it to be. As hard as we're willing to work, it's all there for us. Now every year is a new year and you've got to re-establish that identity every year.

"The term 'window of opportunity,' in my opinion, is always there for us, for this team, for this organization, for this staff and this group of players. It's always open."

Jimmy Graham, Zach Strief, Malcolm Jenkins and Brian de la Puente are some of the bigger potential free agents on the Saints.

"Whatever I can do to help this team, if they want to come to me and extend me even further, that'd be great.

"Listen, there are so many possibilities as to what can happen here. Let's just let this offseason start. It's what, today's the second day of it unfortunately. We all wish it wasn't, but whatever helps this team win and puts the best team on the field."
